Notes About The Poem

While the pundits drink champagne, given the quality of main-stream journalism in the USA and reinforcement of views with information from one source only, it's no wonder:

brewskis before ballots

There once were some voters from here
With factual knowledge unclear
Once in voting booths
Without simple truths
Picked with whom they'd rather drink beer

So true! I was astonished with the lack of experience of some of the candidates running and how little they seem to have to offer.

I liked Maryanne Williamson as a candidate for the democrats but she is not going anywhere. She was a friend of Oprah. So, I have no problem going with Biden. He's a decent person and has reasonable policies for the most part. We never get all that we want, but we hope to avoid getter the orange monster from NY.

So true Duke, the problem of voters lacking factual knowledge and making decisions without considering important truths. Your Limerick employs a playful analogy between selecting drinking companions and the importance of voting.

SP, you're on target as usual. Some people think drinking is much more important than voting. I don't understand it really, but I suppose many feel they have no control over anything. In fact, if we work together, we may gain a little bit.

Politics is a dirty game my friend... Your limerick pokes fun at many of the dilemmas faced and its all in the perceptions, I guess...

Yes SO, and it is getting worse all the time. It's really about money from rich groups trying to protect their ability to accumulate more and more wealth. It's really obscene. They largely control what government does thru lobbying and political contribution.

LOL! Times have changed. Politicking is a nasty business! Young people looking on are either brave or stupid to involve themselves!

Pretty sad kim. We need more people to get involved. I am trying to volunteer form one of the local campaigns, but haven't heard back yet. I'm wondering if they will or will not contact me.

So sad, but true--people don't take the time learn about issues--the uninformed also have a vote-- democracy! Well said, Duke.

Vijay, so true. Many people these days are set in their ways. It's not good to be that way in a world that will change faster and faster. There's a lot to be aware of and to consider!

I love that, you mentioned “ pundits drink champagne “ how creative and also about mainstream media and journalism, so one sided i agree. Another brilliant limerick.”Once in voting booths Without simple truths Picked with whom they'd rather drink beer” this explains so much of the human world, yesterday and today in so many places. Brilliant. Pleasur reading you always

IE, you are very kind. There are classes in society that seem to be acting in predictable ways. The sad part is that without equality and fairness, we're heading toward a more dictatorial country in the US. This saddens many of us. We really don't completely understand what is coming.

Very good idea, or perhaps flip a coin? I just want America to be great for another one hundred years. Thanks for the poem.

Hi Hilda, Like you, I see a coin flip as a joke. There are a lot of things we could do to keep us going strong. It requires a lot of very careful analysis and then actions that will keep a strong middle class and protect the planet. Part of keeping America great involves making sure the entire world economy is on a sustainable footing. We share the air, water, and earth with all.
