Breathtaking
A ghostly vision; flickering
in and out of my sight
a moth’s white wings flap
like a series of still photos,
flipped ever so swiftly
before my eyes.
The air ripples
like a pool of liquid ebony
as each stroke of its wings
opens dimensions
of time and space.
Appearing and disappearing
like a flash of white in the moonlight,
a monochrome reality comes into focus
for a split second.
And like stop-and-go animation,
the moth’s motions seem surreal!
Its flight instills a hypnotic trance,
like a flittering candle fluttering in the wind.
Black and white images
unite in a synergy of negative contrasts,
culminating in a collage of silhouettes
that is positively breathtaking!
