(I sustained two concussions before I was four, one in my 20's and another in my 40's when I fractured my temporal lobe, since I've incurred another concussion. While I admit to what "a long, strange trip it's been" (not void of humorous bits), I am not seeking sympathy from my sweet, fellow writers on Soup. American Football is, I think, the best hope for helpful discoveries concerning brain injuries.)
My fourth concussion
and first skull fracture
were my known’s destruction.
Was nearly a decade when
hindsight saw grief factored
into the garbled map
where I tried to track
the me I yesterday knew.
Cognitive skills impaired,
career derailed, finances
math whipped, emotions
and thoughts just blurred passes
as headaches score and scar.
My acceptance bends and bleeps ~~~
how to befriend pain’s trend …..
when my life's held in its reign?
It’s hard enough finding my name
behind all an accident changed.
