And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? ~ Genesis 4:9 (KJV)
Eve’s heart, breaking,
Because, despite her love,
Cain had left her aching,
For the one she’d borne,
Abel, her chosen son,
The one she loved,
The one who had outdone,
With the acceptable sacrifice,
A sacrifice full of light,
With sincere worship,
He gave to God above,
This gift of love, adoring.
Born a killer, her dear son,
Cain, the tiller of the soil,
The one who God would shun,
Because his gift was not from love.
When he struck Abel,
Left him, his life ended,
This story isn’t just a fable…
It is a revelation, an eye-opener.
This tale reveals jealousy’s quill,
Writing darkness into the spirit,
Reminding us to listen to goodwill,
Never allow our bitterness to win.
When Cain killed Abel, it would steal,
The beauty of a brother’s connection,
If only Cain would have chosen to kneel,
Before the Lord, His heart’s Creator!
