Blue Smoke Dreams
[More paraphrase than translation of a Post WWII Korean jazz ballad by the Kim Sisters, sung mournfully as if for an Asian gangster film noir.]
===
Exhaling blue smoke wherein
Faded memories brighten
I murmur the lyrics with the house band
In a calming below-street jazz club.
There's no way to recover lost dreams.
Love long lost,
Memories crying for recognition,
And I crave the blues
After exhaling blue smoke,
When faded memories brighten.
I miss the old songs that flowed
Like blood of scented roses
Drinking slowly in a subterranean lair
Listening quietly, there is no way
To recapture that surge in my heart.
Youth is gone but a gaping wound remains
And I crave the blues while
I miss the old songs that flowed
Like blood of scented roses.
