Blindness of Vengeance

Quote is by Mohandas K. Ghandi

You have an eye on something that you like,
but someone gets it first, and just for this,
you want revenge! An awful thought – to strike
them would feel nice! But that thought you dismiss.
Although your eye was on that prize, you know
it only ends up messy if you do
a thing unlawful. You’re still angry, so
You start making plans. You think things through.
The scheme you come up with is infantile.
You get your vengeance, acting most unkind.
The whole world keeps on spinning. All the while,
most people to your misdeed have stayed blind.
You can’t feel good! That is no way to live.
To know peace, people must learn to forgive.

Great sonnet Andrea, You've woven Ghandi's quote through this poem beautifully. Fabulous. The more I reread, the better this gets.

Love how you did the quote. Thank you. (I did one recently that used the words "God, oh", and is about waiting: Beckett's "Waiting for Godot". Doesn't, of course, use the word "Godot", but talks about waiting.)
