Blame
It is only myself that I can blame
For not feeling the birthright of freedom
No one saw the anxiety hidden
When I needed it the most where was love.
Did no one catch wind of fear in my face
Or wonder why I didn’t fare well at school
If a kindly person had asked me why
Maybe they’d have found the key to my heart.
The reader may guess why I was so sad
It’s arduous to tell tales from long past
Struggles to find myself were gruelling
If only I’d known happiness from birth.
Would I have been different from the start
If I’d not felt trapped same as a caged bird
If I’d been told the world was mine to roam
To explore without those barrier walls.
Why didn't I plead for the aid I did need
I was afraid of the consequences
Preferring to stay unseen and unheard
Than to create a terrifying scene.
You’d be reading an alluring poem
If I’d have had a joyous carefree youth
Do you feel the pain of childhood distress
Of the young girl who had herself to blame.
