Blame
It is only myself that I can blame For not feeling the birthright of freedom No one saw the anxiety hidden When I needed it the most where was love. Did no one catch wind of fear in my face Or wonder why I didn’t fare well at school If a kindly person had asked me why Maybe they’d have found the key to my heart. The reader may guess why I was so sad It’s arduous to tell tales from long past Struggles to find myself were gruelling If only I’d known happiness from birth. Would I have been different from the start If I’d not felt trapped same as a caged bird If I’d been told the world was mine to roam To explore without those barrier walls. Why didn't I plead for the aid I did need I was afraid of the consequences Preferring to stay unseen and unheard Than to create a terrifying scene. You’d be reading an alluring poem If I’d have had a joyous carefree youth Do you feel the pain of childhood distress Of the young girl who had herself to blame. *+*+* 10th March 2023 Written for the B form words poetry contest Sponsored by: Sotto Poet Word choice - Blame

Congratulations on your win. The word "Blame" is a huge word for a little kid. No more blame just love/smiles every day. Enjoy your win with blessings................

Hi Belle, I hate that you experienced feelings of not being loved, fear, and anxiety as a child. I can relate to feeling unloved and alone as a child. Although you went through that as a child, look at the woman you have become. Sharing our story/testimony can be a ray of hope to the reader. Best wishes in the contest. PS, I did not know that you had Covid. Thank God you are on the mend my friend-Alexis

Thank you Alexis, I’ve tried to overcome the difficulties of my childhood, you can move on but you never forget the horrors of the past. The one shining light that got us sisters through the traumas was our lovely angel of a mother, she never ever spoke of the pain in her heart, but we knew what she went through, yes we knew… Belle x

In our formative years we tend to blame ourselves for turmoil and emotions, beyond our control. Like being blown around in a hurricane, we are at a loss to settle down on from ground. The sad truth is it took me years to stop blaming myself for things beyond my control. My anthology "Sad Truth" proved therapeutic and cathartic. I am faving your poem, Belle~Robert

Thank you so much Robert. I find writing poetry is therapeutic and helped through the years. Is your anthology, or some of it on the site? Belle

A rather chilling write Belle. I appreciate that you accept blame for not pulling yourself out of the situation. We do the best we can in the moment. hugs! :)

Thank you Linda. Perhaps it was wrong to blame myself but being so young one is helpless to do anything about their circumstances. It’s all in the past, unfortunately it’s something you never forget.. Hugs in return, Belle.

Sometimes we can be too harsh on our selves thinking we've let our selves down. Good luck in the contest Belle. I hope everything is OK with you and Alan. Tom

Thank you Tom, I’m feeling more like myself today, have just done a Covid test, there’s still two lines showing that I’m still positive, one line is fainter than the other that must mean the Covid is on the way out of my system, thank goodness. Hope you and yours are well… Belle
