Birds In Winter
As golden, green and russet leaves must fall,
And trees become skeletal wintry bare,
I see so many birds, some large, some small,
Hear them sing as they flutter unaware.
Hush, listen to the thrush as it replies
To the melodies of the sweet robin,
Look, they would fly up in the open skies,
Leaving me alone, my heart a throbbing.
I will build a small wooden bird feeder
Entice the birds that dwell in cold regions
Find soft nuts and other food that's sweeter.
May they gather round and round in legions
Let them eat and stay as always secure,
Let winter rage, birds will thrive and endure.
