Big Spoiled Child
BIG SPOILED CHILD
Weather feels close tonight
The elements are furious. I feel their rage dire,
Hair on end, air crackles, tantrum time -
Zeus’s wrath of heaven : his approaching ire.
He’s angrily abandoned Olympus again -
Storming out, tumbling the Gods’ furniture around.
Initial rumbling grumble in far-off sky,
Clouds frowning shouting out loud sounds.
His flushed black face - a threat of violence
And danger from his flash of anger welling,
Yielding sudden giant teardrops pouring
From the truant Titan son’s yelling.
Zeus’s right-hand thunderbolt
With traced, crazed, forked path,
Clutching the ground with crooked claw,
Snatching at the land with his fierce wrath,
And striking aimlessly at mother earth,
Till his choleric temper has evaporated;
And she absorbing all till he’s calmed,
His passion and displeasure dissipated.
Building his strength for another fit of rage,
Now he sleeps quiet in his Olympian bed:
And all await his next vexed paroxysm
Of uncontrolled violence and dread.
