Beyond the sun's celestial dominion, past purple shimmers of twilight, I delve far beyond moonlight's golden glow into the darkness of pilloried memories, continually searching for answers but fail to find those that keep my heart fettered in chains. Within my restless sleep reveries trespass, flowing through saturnine channels of my mind, flooding my heart until only sorrow remains with pensive images I thought I'd left behind. I'm blinded, not by the bloom of starlight, but by bewildering moments in time. Dismal are the murky shadows looming in the corners of these cavernous hollows. They hover over my drubbing heart, whispering taunts in descending echoes. I grow impatient to end their clamor. High is the morning's rushing tide, reaching its frothy fingers out for me. I rest on grains of moist ochre sand, winnowing far beyond the limits of disconsolate bereavement. It's here that Autumn's demise wears a shroud of withered leaves. I lie quietly, waiting to close my eyes, my tormented heart lingering in grief that has haunted me since long ago. As the sun begins its ascent from the sea, dawn disturbs my quest for eternal peace.

Sorrows from my past play upon the heartstrings of poets, and you, dear Susan, have quite a tender and kind heart. Thank you ever so sincerely for your continuous support of my creations.

Lin, this is a masterpiece of melancholy... emotions are deeply felt and poetically depicted with the backdrop of night's darkness, the rushing tide, and Autumn's demise adding gravitas to the soul's long night of torment. I love the line 'flowing through saturnine channels of my mind'. Excellent writing as always, a worthy trophy win and a belated congrats for your POTD for this jewel. Warm wishes for continued success in the marathon ~ John

Hello, John. I always enjoy reading which lines of my writings are most enjoyed by a reader. You've always supported my poetry, and for that I'm sincerely grateful. I joined the marathon in week 8, so I'm feeling fortunate to still be in the race. Thanks so much.

Oh, Lin, you take us on a journey "into the darkness of pilloried memories" where "dismal are the murky shadows looming in the corners of these cavernous hollows, ... far beyond the limits of disconsolate bereavement." I am glad that what saves the poem's subject from the "morning's rushing tide" is the dawning of a new day! Congratulations on your first-place finish on Mile 16 of my 2022 Poetry Marathon Contest. Keep your running shoes on, because Mile 17 has already started.

I am so very pleased that my lines were awarded a placement in your contest, Mark. Another sad song I wrote years ago, but tragedy and heartache seem to draw the ink from my well in the most profound way. I DO have a sense of humor. :)

I've come back to my fav'd poems to give them another read. Your first stanza kind of sets the tone of my life. Sad with elusive answers.

You've done it all in this piece Lin. It is free verse yet as one reads it the music is still beautifully layered into this write. The best of both worlds, a fav for me.

Thank you so very much, Alexis. Though sad poems make us shed a tear, we must remember that someone else always has troubles far worse than ours. I hope all is well with you in many ways. I'm so glad that you took the time to write...;-)

Thanks so much, sweet pea. Sorrow such as this touches so many of us, but it's laughter like your limericks that returns smiles and laughter to us. Thank you for supplying those for all of us, Jan.

Beautifully penned, Lin. I can identify with the heart whispering ascending alibis. The heart used to fall so easily. The memories, most of the bad ones, are gone these days. Congratulations on POTD. Well deserved. Great to see you posting again:):)

Danny, thank you for always finding time to read and comment. Our hearts often lead us in the wrong direction but we're helpless to guide it from what it pursues. Treacherous, it is called in Scripture. Ours have both been wounded.

This is truly beautiful, Lin. Memories, happy or sad ones, tend to visit us when least expected, especially at night. The content is very poetic, especially as the poem draws to an end on a sad note. Wishing you all the nest...paul

BRILLIANT IN ITS DEPTH TRUTH AND SADNESS. So many of us, walk in darkness , facing great adversities but think we are alone. We are not, for the Light ever awaits our search. Yet grieving is a process, most often a helpful one. For we must endure to rise above it.. Super 7 and a fav for me is this jewel..

Merci for your kindest of remarks, Robert. Endurance is not easily attained, but we must find strength to meander through it. We're never alone. We but need to pray for help and guidance, know that He hears us.

This was soothing to read until I got o the end and realized, this is how my life feel right now. Wishing the dawn would appear somewhere other than where I am. Really nice Lin.

I'm sorry you're experiencing such emotional trials, Chris. Take heart in knowing that you're not alone and dawn will always break over us. Sometimes we just need to open our eyes and look beyond our emotional and/or physical pains so that we can heal what ever afflictions make us want to hover in darkness. Thank you for always commenting. I appreciate your time and kind thoughts.
