"I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Three Christian Churches here used to play Their hymns rang out along the way They took turns with their chimes each day Never overlapped come what may How I miss those sweet bells of old They rang out through warm, hot and cold Their songs of love, peace, joy were told Before our world its soul to evil sold Those hymns at Christmas time so dear And carols ringing so strong and clear On each street corner there was no fear No illegal drugs around this small town here Could this world normalize again People spread out and grow some hens Have some goats, ducks, and a weathervane To go into town maybe catch a train While 'pon that ride the bells ring out Now that is what I'm talking about Places where love can be planted and sprout Those days can be good without a doubt

Oh I do so agree Sara. I long for days of old when people lived in small rural towns and didn't have to lock their doors. Nicely done. God Bless and Merry Christmas, JB

Judy, I know there has always been crime and evil, but so much of it today. I agree that it would be nice to have communities where there was freedom from evil, but that won't happen again until Jesus reigns and we don't know when. Sara J

what a lovely Monorhyme, Sara. I miss those simpler times, times that were less chaotic and violent. I always loved listening to church bells...they always sounded hopeful and inspirational. You captured that feel for me. Nicely done. Have a pleasant evening, Sara

Anne-Lise, I live rural so I can't hear the music all the way out here, but sometimes when in town I can hear it some. They don't use bells anymore but recorded instrumental music. They used to play the pipe organ attached to a loud speaker. Thanks for the kind review, Sara K

What a beautiful and soulful monorhyme this is, i love how each stanza flows with such captivating monorhymes, so many lines stood out for me here “ Their songs of love, peace, joy were told Before our world its soul to evil sold “ this resonates so strongly. “ On each street corner there was no fear No illegal drugs around this small town here” i remember those days too, i think things have changed in so many places around the world. Sigh. Very touching and sincere write, sending light always.

I can truly hear those divine bells through your mellifluous words that flowed in sync with peace and serenity! You've captured a beautiful ambience here dear Sara, connecting with the higher power, when those words were truly golden.. "Before our world its soul to evil sold" Sigh, I too miss that pure world.. A beautiful monorhyme poem dear, sending you light..

Hiya, I know there has always been evil, but it seemed when I was young there wasn't as much of it. Maybe I am just nostalgic. Thanks for dropping by and taking time to read and comment. Sara ..That song was written during the civil war and I learned a lot when I was researching to write my work.
