Notes About The Poem

The Creative Act, by Rick Rubin: Book Review — The Blue Garret

Being

Being more open to others’ ideas
Being helpful when I encounter the helpless
Being loving when I see those that seem unlovable
Being slow to anger when I feel I’m being attacked
Being understanding when others make mistakes
Being non-judgmental when people are different from me
Being thankful for all that comes into my life

That is why we are buddies Bill because you are such kind, 'decent' gentle man and loyal friend with a great sense of humour! I cannot keep up with all your poems Bill as you pumping them out fast and furious atm! Lovely poem that reflects you my friend!! Debx

Thank you, my sweet friend, Deb. I don't expect anyone to read all I write, just read what is comfortable. I want be writing as many, starting next week, I'll only be writing about three a day. I just had a build up from the year away from poetry soup and some I edited after I deleted all of my past poem here at poetry soup when I came back. I hope all is well with you and your family. Cheers! Bill

Hey Bill, this is such a gentle and thoughtful piece. Really appreciate the reminders—simple truths we all need to lean into more often. Thanks for sharing this.

Some good ideals to live up to. If we do, most of the time we are rewarded with a happier life. Thanks for sharing this one with us, Bill. I enjoyed reading it. Sara K

That is a very tall order of what to be, and it will do well for everyone when people achieve that. Those ideas I think I might be some of them sometimes, and others of them other times. Great write by the way.

Me too, Miranda. Certainly not all of them all the time, yet. :-) Thanks for the comments my friend. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

Along with gratitude Bill comes a whole palette of colors ready to be turned into poetry, you have some very altruistic qualities listed here, wish we could all adhere to this, what a wonderful world we would be living in. Thanks for the poem, be well

I'm much like everyone else, my friend. These are qualities and behaviors that I want others to see in me. I'm a work in process like many others. I'm certainly not fully there yet. In my day-to-day life, I am much like what I've described here. It is such a joy to see the look of unbelief in people's eyes when I am led to help them or give to them when we don't know each other. It is such a blessing to give and help, I just wish I had more to distribute. :-) I'm just thankful I chose to try the good path instead of the evil path, because I think I had the ability to do well regardless of my choice. Very nice of you! However, here is a nice proverb to read "A friend to all is a friend to none" Have a good day ~ AA

Intriguing thought, I do not agree. If we are ultimately all one, then being a friend to one is being a friend to all. Think about that, my friend. Bill p.s. I will think more on the proverb you mention though.

I had to look the form up! 'Lines must begin with same letter as one word title.' What a fun form. Yours is like a prayer meets New Year's resolutions. Beautiful lines, all. We must talk. My Dad's name is Bill (died 1997), brother, too (died 2022) so love typing (saying) your name, I'm an Army brat, moved all the time, but spent 20 yrs in Dallas, much longer than anywhere else, is that where you are in Texas? Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Yes, outside of Dallas, but DFW area. I spent 7+ years in Air Force, went to 5 high schools and 16 schools between 1st and 12th grade. I joke to people; "I got in the Air Force to settle down for a few years". LOL Soup mail me sometimes and we can get to know each other better. Bill
