Since statehood in 1948, every male Israeli soldier has been guaranteed 30 - 45 days a year at minimum of reserve duty. How the economy manages to grow despite this is a minor miracle...

The doctor’s practice went to waste the moment that the medic faced A call from his reserve platoon to fight a battle all too soon The CEO of Pharma-Tech would leave behind all hands on deck When his brigade came calling him he knew the war was no mere whim The principal of my kids’ school had fought the call, but overruled He swiftly left his chair unmanned The army had ripped up his plans ‘Coz ev’ry year since 'forty-eight Disruption's marred the Jewish State

it is easier to "put your money where your mouth is" than to put your "ass on the line"...

Amazing how everything keeps going with so many having to go to war. Now, in America the national guard have to go into active duty where at one time they mostly were supposed to state in America and handle things within its borders and the military reserves went back into war. Thanks for sharing this information with us. Sara K

I like this idea. It's disruptive but unifying. I sometimes wonder if we would have fewer gang problems if we had a draft.

Great point, Hilda. No doubt about it. So many future gang members are really just crying out for direction and discipline. They wind up finding it in a gang, except it's a perverse direction... Thanks for the insight, gw
