Before My Youth Departs

The gumbo mud, I walk its path, the sun bares hard that delta heat. I feel the clay sculpt my toes, and kick its weight from my feet. The vibrate land sprouts vivid green, that’ll grow tall into its grain. Diamonds of dew glisten on leaves, to tease and welcome the rain. Dreams of youth are fleeting, so, I cling powerless to resist. Good times fall away to memories, reminiscent of a first time kiss. This boy will become a man in time. Oh, sun linger your rapid arc. This mortal soul would possess this day, before my youth departs.
