Notes About The Poem

Beauty Without Permission

The Devil insists
The Fall is Drafted
Suffering is Scripted—
as Seed

I declare the Seed a Fraud
yet still, I plant it deep
The Garden splits its Jaw
and swallows Autumn whole

The Flowers, Lord, are Feral
They bloom without my Grief
they bloom despite my Watching
Teeth in the soil—they mock

Beauty grinds its Machinery
without Permission
And I, a Cog unconsulted,
must grind in Silence

Dear US, Thank You, This is one of my contemplative philosophy and theology poems that articulates a theological and existential conflict between meaning imposed from above and beauty that exists independent of human consent, merit, or suffering. More to come.... Holiday Blessings, Dear US, Daniel

Whoa!! I deep one. I have cone flowers blooming that my husband planted back in the spring, and I wonder how they are surviving with some really cold nights and one really heavy frost that covered everything. I thank him for planting them because they blossoms add a special touch for me now in this time of grief. Sara K

Dear Sara, My wife is the green thumb and loves planting flowers, as well as propagating them to give to her friends. Our Snowdrops are the first to pop in the soil, sometime around the end of Feb to Mar. Holiday Blessings, Dear Sara, Daniel

Hi Daniel, this is an interesting poem! It sounds like nature's beauty has a life of its own, and prevails, regardless.

Excellent salute to Nature Divine expressing outside of human emotion or perception. I love how you’ve given Fallen Angel his-her due. “Suffering scripted as Seed !” Got it spot on, Sir. Don’t despair, Daniel ~ you ARE consulted, you just don’t know it. I’m faving this one, though not your usual style, I like its Dark-Light tone as Oneness. ( feels kind of progressy on the Consciousness Scale, lol !)

Dear Ghairo, thank you for your generous reflections. I’m grateful you saw the Fallen Angel’s due and the paradox of suffering scripted as seed that insight captures the tension I hoped to convey. I’m honored you found it worthy of a favorite. Autumn Blessings, Dear Ghairo, Daniel.

We do sometimes feel powerless...a prop in some great cosmic game. Maybe chess between Gods. Not at all important. We live fertilize seed, and are planted. Cremation for me. Enjoyed the read very much, Daniel. Thank you for sharing.

Hello Joe, thank you for sharing your reflections. I appreciate how you connected the poem to that sense of being a small part of a larger cosmic game. Your words about seed, planting, and even cremation add a profound layer to the conversation. Autumn Blessings, Joe, Daniel.

Dear Daniel, the depth of your perceptions about life are highlighted by this poem. Indeed, Beauty askes no one to be and you, as God's creation, askes no permission for your existence or using your gifts which are ultimately beautiful! Love the picture of the snowdrops - one of the first flowers to bloom - beauty in barren winter! I love the way you craft your words for full impact - each with a meaning all its own! Thank you for this gift! December blessings of joy, dear friend!

Dear Sam, your reflections touched me deeply. I love how you saw the snowdrops as a symbol of beauty blooming in barren winter. Beauty asks no permission, just as we, too, are called to exist and create without apology. Your words are a gift. Autumn blessings, Dear Sam, Daniel.

Seems so. Reminds me of Sylvia Plath’s Tulips…they are too red. Grief robs us of color; we see it, but it holds no joy, turns foggy gray. Well written. Hugs

Dear Kim, thank you for drawing that connection to Plath’s Tulips, I love how you saw the way grief can strip color from beauty. Your insight deepens the the poem for me. Grateful for your thoughtful reading and kind words. Autumn blessings, Daniel.
