Batman

Wearing a dishtowel around his shoulders as a cape This gleeful child claiming to be Batman Jumping off the footstool, Leaping around the room, Determined to save the world Now grown, a world of worries of his own, The enemy is a mighty foe A furrow in the brow of youth A childhood world he must let go When the world contrives to knock you down, who will rescue you?

Good write. All too true when kids grow up. My kids are my heroes.

The super hero exists in him always, it may not show but I believe that at one point in everyone's life the superhero emerges for himself or another. Love the reminders of what I used to do as a boy and what my sons had done too. Michael

Ah, isn't it fun being a mother? fun, and worth every single gray hair. Well, I think he's in there, with his cape on, just waiting for the right moment to jump. a sweet poem, C, love, Kristin

Nice work, childhood was a great time but the realities in life are greater in size when we age. Nice poem Carrie, I dearly enjoyed it...Raul

This is wonderful, Carrie. The imagination that children have is so wonderful. They are determined enough at that age to save the world then they grow up (at least most do) and have to face the realities of the world. This is so true to life, Carrie. I enjoyed this read. Hope he finds his super-hero! Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Carrie. It meant a lot. Love always, Robin

I am living the first part of this poem right now..he wants to jump from stairs, becoming every character he sees on television..I am hoping when he gets older he will still want to hold onto some of his childish things. Good job. Love, Chris.

You brought such a smile to my face. I too had two super heros jumping from stairs, running trying to make their capes fly. My favorites were the ones in p.j.s and towels. Gosh it fills my heart when I write it. loveudo, Laurie

Carrie, I have precious pictures of my son as Batman for Halloween when he was about 5 or 6. Sadly, at 21 he has had more problems than his young super hero self could have ever imagined. This is a bittersweet write, well penned, evoking great emotion. Hope your Batman conquers the world. : ) Love, shar
