The little girl’s mom Tila, worked hard to save enough money It was her baby girl’s birthday, how she loved her miel, her honey She saw a Barbie doll that stood in the window at Catarina’s Boutique Wearing a traditional dress embroidered, flowered details so unique Sugar skulls glisten and a crown of marigolds adorn her hair A Mexicana Barbie with long dark braids nothing would compare Complemented by a golden yellow flowery headband The dolls face and body a beautiful color of ochre, tanned Spotted by the little girl on their walk through the city Calling out, que bonita! Mamita she is really pretty Maria Barbie printed on the box, like hers it was the same She knew she had to have her, when learned she shared her name Tila rushed home to put in the order on the phone The line went dead and then it was a muted tone She prayed that the order went through that day And hoped it would be received on her daughter’s birthday Because of the power outage in Pueblo, a small town The Barbie doll was gone, lost and could not be found Tila was sad when she told her miel it was the last one of her kind Don’t cry mamita, I already prayed another little girl Barbie Maria will find

Although a sorrowful tale, it is both instructive and important for struggling Pueblo children to be portrayed beside affluent children of El Norte. Written with a sobering passion.

Thank you, Robert! My tale could've been someone's story of in a Pueblo with no electricity or running water.

I can imagine how heartbroken both the mother and her little daughter. Hope a new Barbie doll will be gifted to her soon.

Anaya this is a beautiful story, magnificently told. It is a lesson to we adults just how unselfish most children can be. I have already given this a favourite as it tugged at my heartstrings. My favorite type of poetry is when it tells a story. This ticked every box !!

I liked your entry, Anaya. A loving mother and a hopeful daughter. Things didn't work out perfect, but the little girl found the love in her heart to wish the doll well and a home with another little girl. You're right, small towns people, and the poorer families seem seem find faith and love easier than the big city, rich folks. Good luck in the contest my friend. Smiles ~ Blessing Bill p.s. thanks for reading and commenting on so many of my poem, your thoughts mean a lot to me.

The Novella's have so many stories like these, "The Surrogacy" The Mexican drama follows a woman named Yeni as she's coerced into being the surrogate for an affluent family, Yeni gives birth to twins. One born with clubfoot, considered unfit to take over the shady pharmaceutical empire, eventually Yeni inherits & dedicates it to the women they experimented on & changes bring only good things & happiness--there are miracles!

I admire the confidence of the little girl. I'm sure she'll find her Barbie doll.

Many who are dirt poor, families who struggle they say are closer to God, are tested through heartbreaking mishaps. Many pueblos out there, Victor.
