Balloons
Why is every child so fascinated
By what is clearly just a bag of air?
Flimsy bits of rubber when deflated
Can cause a feeling of delight to flare.
Perhaps it’s a matter of gravity
And how they seem to flaunt natural law.
They way they bounce and float: a sight to see.
So, maybe that is why they inspire awe.
In fact, I have seen children o’ercome fear
To try to gain the strange, peculiar toy
And to the dreaded clown draw ever near
Then rush off with the object of their joy.
They look at us as if we are buffoons…
If we don’t know why they love their balloons.
