Back To My Roots
BACK TO MY ROOTS
Long ago a tree was planted
In a room with two young men;
There I bowed in prayer and earnest,
At last I was born again.
As I planned a short vacation
To hear some great men of God,
I knew I must take the journey
Back to that small plot of sod.
As I neared the place I planted
My life on the Solid Rock,
Wished that I could stay forever,
Stand there and just stop the clock.
But as I stood there and crying,
Realized how that tree had grown,
I found myself again wishing
Better there I would have sown.
But that tree can still be growing,
Watered often by my tears,
Fertilized by God’s own Scripture,
Bearing more fruit through the years.
I may never see this garden
Here again in life below,
But in memory it will linger
When I planted long ago.
It was good I got to travel
Back to my roots just once more,
But I long for that reunion
There at last on heaven’s shore.
There I’ll see all those who helped me
Plant that tree there in that place,
Led me to the blessed Savior
Where I was saved by His grace.
There the tree will be perfection,
Leaves will never fall again,
By the river I’ll be planted,
Free from failure, free from sin!
