What's your sleep animal … wolf, lion, bear or dolphin? | TreeHugger

A vista ... Staggering Swallowed whole By the haunting wilderness Merciless cold and endless night The thankless and starkly barren spine of nature Found trembling, in a half-frozen world of darkness Blood and bone, the battered remnants of harsh reality Pack and pup, the canabalistic casualty of survival Bright eyes and acuity, quick to devour their innocent own In the primal efforts of a costly continuance Compassion, as brief as candle flame Carnality, no more than instinct Arctic as nature intended Visceral, feral, cold And bleak. ~ 6th Place ~ in the "Wild" Poetry Contest, Anthony Slausin, Judge & Sponsor. ~ 1st Place ~ in the "Any New Free Verse Poem" Poetry Contest, Laura Loo, Judge & Sponsor.

Cold, bleak, and haunting. Excellent depiction of a "dog eat dog" world. Congrats on your high placement in "Wild" ~ John

Thank you VERY much, Luloo, I am honored to place so highly among such amazing poets, and so pleased you enjoyed my poem ... I know these "darker" pieces aren't everyone's cup of tea, but they are cathartic for me, and visiting those places makes the sweet things even sweeter - part of the "balance" of the Universe for me, and there is much beauty in the dark, (I know you understand). Blessings, my friend! :-) <3
