Autumn Yawns

Autumn Yawns Autumn yawns – early darkness stunts her days Eventide wrapped in golden umber tones Bands of autumn hues swaddle mellow haze Sunset sundrops sweet serenades intone. Twilight dozes ‘neath the harvest’s birthstone Autumn savors new frost in early dusk Scarlet scents, aphrodisiac cologne, Festoon icy crystals - autumnal musk. Vesper rondeaus rustle in dry cornhusks Scents of spice float in the warm afterglow Autumn tastes nursery rhymes like sweet rusks Stars keep watch in astral autumn meadows She slips into the mellow midnight’s glow Drowsy barcarolles bid Autumn goodnight Harvest hectic days through cradle songs slow Lullabies wait to croon in faded lights Drowsy barcarolles bid Autumn goodnight Bands of autumn hues swaddle mellow haze Lullabies wait to croon in faded lights Autumn yawns – early darkness stunts her days. 10-219-22 Contest: Autumn Pandoum Sponsor: Caren Krutsinger Rhymes checked with www.rhymezone Syllables checked with www.howmany syllables

Deliciously drowsy perspective on Autumn's sneaky approach, dear R&R Sis! Love all your bedtime verbiage (yawns, swaddle, vesper, mellow, drowsy, lullabies) as well as your signature musical overtones. Vintage Samba, and I love it! Congrats on your win and early darkness blessings to you ~ R&R Bro

Hi John - alias R&R Bro! Thank you dear friend for your deliciously delightful message and feedback. Everything just seemed to flow from that picture of Autumn yawning, preparing to sleep to the melodies of stars, colors and lullabies after she finished the hectic harvest time - truly a time to rest. I kept hearing Barcarolle from the Tales of Hoffman with its dreamy, soothing melody. Seemed to be a perfect serenade for Autumn. I think the world sings to both of us. We are truly blessed to hear its ever changing melody. Sending you all the blessings of this season of abundance on waves of peace and grace!

Hi Evelyn! A heartfelt thank you coming your way! Like you, I do love autumn. It seems there are seasons within a season each one with their own seasoning. It was fun to think about autumn getting ready to hibernate until spring arrives. Hope you are well. Sending you all the blessings of this abundant season my friend.

Hi Kim, thank you so much for your note of congratulations! I had fun thinking about autumn getting drowsy after the hectic harvest - getting ready to sleep through winter to the sound of a lullaby. I kept thinking about the Barcarolle from the Tales of Hoffman. Sending you all the blessings of the season!

Hi Linda! I am so delighted that you enjoyed this poem. Thank you for your note of congratulations. It occurred to me that autumn starts out with such energy - the harvest, the changing sky, leaves turning colors - then slowly slips into hibernation with a yawn! This was fun to write. Sending you all the blessings of the season.

Wow! Congrats! Thanks for sharing this... delightful and delighting from the start 'til the end... indeed making me experience, though vicariously, the splendor of Autumn in our "Autumnless" country. God bless you.

Hi Beata! What a wonderful message. Thank you! There can be no greater compliment than to know you got to experience the glory of God's autumn through a poem. What a gift. You are so right and i love the title you have chosen for this poem. 'Autumn yawns - early darkness stunts her days' and the line I love is Autumn tastes nursery rhymes like sweet rusks' - you have such a vivid imagination and it slips off your talented pen onto paper forming an awesome gem. Well penned dear friend, Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Thank you so much Jennifer! Autumn, even with the advent of rain storms, is a sleepy bedtime story for me. The growing is done. The harvest gathered in. The frenetic energy of summer wanes. Time to retreat around a warm fire - enjoy the fruits of our labors with friends and family. Have to admit I do like the title of this poem. It makes me happy to know it resonated with you especially as summer is on the horizon for you! Hope you continue to do well. I always love our visits. Hugs and all the blessings of this season to you!

Sam you so cleverly have created an exceptional poem. The Autumn theme is brought forth to life as it slowly succumbs to the fall cycle. Your words were magnificent in describing. I must admit I had to use my dictionary for one or two lol. I was impressed with your endless vocabulary of words they are tools to be used in conveying and you have a Treasure Trove of them. I really love this one Sam. It is different it gave me a melancholy feeling. It is definitely a Favorite and I would not be ...

Hi Michael! Many thanks coming your way! It seemed to me that within the cycle of the season there is a cycle of days and nights. I do love words and the shading they give to a poem. I am so glad you loved this poem. That is a gift! Thank you for your fav and your good wishes! That is an honor my friend! Sending you all the blessings of the season!

surprised to see this at the very top of the contest. In my humble opinion it is one of the best if not the best I have read on Autumn... God bless you my friend...

Sam, Your poetry is so full of the splendor of autumn, and I appreciate how the mood begins to slow down as the season becomes wearier. Thank you for sharing it with us. I enjoy the way that this transitions so naturally from one stanza to the next. Best wishes for the contest

Hi Lasaad! Thank you so much especially for noticing the transitions of the poem! I was out running errands yesterday and suddenly I saw so much fall color it took my breath away. I thought to myself when did all of this happen right under our noses! Autumn is so subtle! I am so glad that this poem reflects that slow change! Many thanks for your lovely feedback! Sending you all the blessings of the season my friend!

I like how this flows so seamlessly from one stanza to the next, so full of the beauty of fall, and I like how the feel slows down as the year grows drowsy, should be a winner!

Hi Michelle! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your feedback! Thank you! Like sleep, sometimes, this one was a challenge! I wondered about the thematic flow and your words of compliment are such a reassuring balm for me. Fall is truly beautiful with her beauty a contrast in every way to the other seasons - it is her "season-ing!" Have my fingers, and toes, crossed for the contest! Blessings to you!
