Notes About The Poem

Autumn Wind

What fun to shake the trees;
the wind, playful.
She doesn’t have to ask please,
   nor be graceful.

Leaves not picked like apples;
   flutters like snow.
Crisp like the fruit; wrestling grapples
the pile below.

The wind, playful.
She doesn’t have to ask please.
   Her shake, faithful.
In Autumn, she’s ripe to tease.

Flutters like snow;
crisp like the fruit. Wrestling grapples
handfuls to go
   in Fall’s blowhard battle.

Thank you, Paige! I was talking to my 10 year old grandson about metaphor and simile. Then he tells me about personification. I read this one to him. How I love to get this new generation interested in poetry!

It sure does! My husband’s plane got caught in the wind near Chicago. Scared the pilot so bad, he didn’t speak, left the plane with beads of sweat pouring down his face. Yikes! My son and other wrestlers were on board.
