Autumn

I awake to find you once again
Setting fire to the leaves
Multi-colored flames in rain
I watch them falling from the trees
To fly upon an ever-changing breeze

You scorch the valleys and the hills
And turn their green to gold
And paint yourself upon the rills
That run from times of old
On water black as coal

I watch in awe, before my eyes
The magic you unfold
Forgetting for a moment, Summer died
As you steal my heart and soul
With the vision that these old eyes now behold

Lovely piece of rhyming poetry. If this had been written by say Blake for example it would, by now, have been set to music...it should make a fine hymn I feel; puts me in mind of Blake's Jerusalem. Best regards Elaine! :) john

This is an excellent post and a wonderful poem, my dear sister of God's inspirational grace, Elaine. I love the flow of the words and the impact of the message regarding autumn. The descriptive excellence is lovely and sends terrific images. I love the multi-colored line a lot. It truly represents autumn. The theme stands out, and the tone and tenor move the piece down the page with much grace. Great job! Have a fantastic day, and enlightened with God's richest grace and blessings always.

Thank you for stopping by, dear Joseph... and for your very descriptive comments...I was recently going through my box of poetry awards and came across one from you several years ago for my poem (The Last Supper), which took 2nd place. John Heck, took first place. He was an extremely talented writer who has since gone on to be with our Father in Heaven.

Ahh!!! I enjoyed reading this one. Frost then the cold and snow that follows wrecks summer's beauty but the silhouettes of summer's plants has a beauty all its own. I am glad that I chose this one to read today. Thanks for the visit to my page. Sara
