August, You Lazy Dog

August, you lazy dog Panting in the shade Watching squirrels with bushy tails In acorn stash parade. Your humid breath The wafting scent Of summer’s moments Fully spent Soft rustling Of corn stalks tall Await the chill Of coming fall August, you lazy dog You’ll slowly slip on past As dog days come and settle in Knowing they can’t last John G.
