Guess they may be minute in your eyes But this tiny insect can pack quite a surprise The sheer strength of these little ants May make you give them a second glance Scientists have now discovered an ant can lift One hundred times it’s body weight – what a gift! Just because it’s tiny it doesn’t mean The power of this insect cannot be seen So next time you see a teeny ant remember if you can It has so much power but it’s simply hidden from man In actual size it may not be considered a ‘giant’ But for psychical strength it is self-reliant Contest - Giant Animals Sponsor – Nathan D Poem inspired by this article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1252481/Pictured-Incredible-gravity-defying-ant-carry-100-times-body-weight.html 08~25~15

The splendidity of the creatures that walk amongst us are simply marvellous. It's we whom when walking amongst them, are not! - Another superb piece Jan, I LOVE this one, hugs ~~ James xx

G'day Jan... you have put the strength of ants into perspective in your poem. Ants and other hive insects could certainly teach us plenty on how to function, and as you wrote, the strength is immense but needed for survival - good luck - Lindsay

This is excellent....The fact that over night they can build giant ant nests is amazing. I didn't have ant spray so I spray them with glue! Entertainment lasted for hours...

A good lesson about the ant in verse. Not sure what is meant by the last line? Best to you in the contest. And thanks for reading my limerick about the lady from Shannon. Always a pleasure to hear from you. / M

If an Ant was a meter long it could pull a train moreover it has the largest brain in proportion to his body! Very informative and very well written dear, Jan!

I don't think it is what Nathan is after but it is my interpretation of the theme and the power of an ant dwarf's that of man:-) hugs Jan xx
