As It Glistens
In the ancient cemetery of a small town
wherein the number of its dead
far outweighs the number of the town’s
current living population,
numerous dirt paths meander
past the beautiful green of well-tended grass.
Where a lilac bush graces one secluded spot,
Lilah stands alone before her husband’s tombstone.
The newness of its polished marble
reflects the newness of the young woman’s plight
as it glistens in the sunlight.
Dropping to her knees,
Lilah feels the glisten of
fresh tears.
