As It Glistens

In the ancient cemetery of a small town wherein the number of its dead far outweighs the number of the town’s current living population, numerous dirt paths meander past the beautiful green of well-tended grass. Where a lilac bush graces one secluded spot, Lilah stands alone before her husband’s tombstone. The newness of its polished marble reflects the newness of the young woman’s plight as it glistens in the sunlight. Dropping to her knees, Lilah feels the glisten of fresh tears. Lovely and touching, Andrea. The first part is like a path meandering around. The second is emotional and leads to a fitting climax. A fav for me. Regards // paul

Connie, I did the contest completely wrong with my specificity etheree further down my page. Last night Caycay informed me that we were supposed to write about a specific person, place, material thing (the gravestone) and natural thing (I used lilac bush). We were supposed to use a body part (so I used knees) I did not even SEE that part of the contest until Caycay told me to go look!!

I like this poem! But who is Lilah? I wrote something about the horrific attacks in California on a synagogue. I think that one should respond to current events in poetry sometimes. Of course nature poetry can take one away. I am still unmarried and chasing after that mirage called love. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

She is a woman in sorrow. I just like the name, and the point of the challenge here was to be specific, so that is her specific name. I rarely do political writing. I am not good at it very often! Try writing some romance for your future bride!

I felt the specificity as I read the your poem, Andrea..the details enhanced the imagery and the feelings of sorrow.
