As If It Were Heaven
I met them on the street where they walked a sleazy dog.
I told them "Have a good night" as though it were heaven.
And this seemed odd.
A lady rushed the elevator of which I held ready.
It was "My pleasure" I said, as though it were heaven.
And this seemed odd.
As one woman pushed her shopping cart, I helped her along.
I said "Anytime", as if it were heaven.
And this seemed odd.
As the many years have passed;
so the good deeds too.
I wonder where heaven went,
as if it were heaven...
and this seemed odd...
as if it were heaven too.
