As I Sail Out To Sea

I look around me at all those happy faces People that have come from far and wide To bid goodbye their son-turned sailor I look around me at all those smiling faces And wonder if they or any one of them Can visualize what is in it for me I put out my best smile for them And hug each and every one A final hug, a final goodbye For such it is for all but a few A final farewell for their son-turned-sailor As he set sail the fathomless seas I look around me, searching for the one love That could not come, that would not come That would not bear to see me sail away I look around me but all I see are these people That smile and hug and shout ‘Goodbye' As I sail out to sea, out of her sight As the ship sets sail out of the harbour We stand on the deck waving Goodbye And as the people and the coast recede behind us A tear – co-mingled with sweat, rolls down my cheek And I know I must come back and soon For the one who would not see me sail out to sea

My one greatest love was the Sea. Navy reserve 1963-69 and 1978-2005. Still have the memories.

Sea love never die. If one ship fails you, try again, another ship! We have something- very small in common. I stood on the deck of HMS Hermes in 1967...when it docked in Mombasa for a month.
