Are Poets Only Visiting

Perhaps poets are visitors from a distant
planet, finding ours too harsh to hear
the heartbeat of a beautiful phrase. Or,
could they be nature's attempt to save us?

I thought your title at first, Ann, referred to the lack of comments from others for poems here at The Soup - I'm certainly surprised this poem hasn't garnered more. I really enjoyed it. :)

Thank you, Gary. It's from a longer poem I wrote in 2020 titled What is a Poet. The long poem has gotten many views, but thank you for your nice comments. And I agree: many good poets go hardly noticed. Also, I think people are reluctant to comment. Take care.

Can poets save the world? I don't know but I'm willing to try!

My only thought, Ann, is that poets are a very special lot. How or when we originated is open to question, I suspect, but we are a notable species. Loved your poem.

Thank you, Milton. We are a special lot. I wrote that poem in 2020. I'm constantly amazed at the beauty penned by poets, and sorry for those who don't try to grasp their meanings.
