Annabelle

When Annabelle was by her side she felt secure. At the park where she played frisbee or the movies there was an unspoken connection that allayed her fears and quieted her anxieties. They were as one, inseparable, going everywhere together, like sisters sharing secrets no one else would ever know, until... ...her Annabelle was gone. She lost her compass, her way of comprehending right from wrong. She was frantic; she searched high and low, her mom called the police, alerted all the hospitals. She could not let go, could not differentiate the darling from the dream, but... ...her Annabelle was gone. She never was the same after her loss. In and out of clinics and consulting with a shrink she was beside herself with rage and disbelief. It took years of tender loving care before she finally let go of her dear Annabelle, and set the limit to her grief.

Hi Keith :D Unfortunately my exams are still going strong :/ but I always have time to read your poems :) this is wonderful, very very powerful and love the repetition of "her annabelle was gone"... It really brings the message home. Annabelle is also my proper name, so I was instantly drawn to this one! X
