The medics said they would do all they could, but had told me to prepare me for the worst case scenario as you were in serious fetal distress. I was physically and emotionally drained but with one final push you emerged into the world ... but the only one who was screaming and crying was me. Bitter tears burned my cheeks as I looked at your rosebud mouth and counted your tiny fingers and toes. I cradled you for hours and that night you lay next to my bed in a cuddle cot until a man in a black coat came to take you to the chapel of rest. My arms ached to hold you and my empty heart was hollow as a drum. Born sleeping, yet the angels danced on the day that you were born as they welcomed you with open arms. grey granite gravestone pink floral teddy bear wreath grieving parents weep FICTION POEM for Angels Danced Poetry Contest Sponsored by LuLoo checked with how many syllables 5,7,5 8/30/19

This is so sad Jan. I wrote about birth too and will post it soon. Have you ever heard about the miracle baby that was still born and doctors did all they could to revive the baby girl. They pronounced her dead and for over an hour the grandma held her and then gave her to her mom to say goodbye. While she was holding her she took a breath and little by little became a completely normal child with no brain damage! I think the energy from them holding her, saved her. Beautiful! xxoo

Jan, This is such a heart whenching write. It brought tears to my eyes. What a sad senario that is unfortunately true for some mother's world wide. It's good to hear that it is fiction for you. I wish you the best of luck in the contest- Alexis

I had a huge lump in my throat as I wrote the poem it reminded me of a lady called Sue who had a stillborn baby, she was totally distraught and didn't return to work ... I guess working with pre-school toddlers was just too much for her at the time:-( hugs jan xx

I much prefer writing humour but do surprise with the odd serious poem:-) For me it is fiction but when I was training to be a nursery nurse one of the teachers at the preschool I worked at had a stillborn baby and it is still something I think of:-( hugs jan xx
