And Truth Shall Set You Free
On a sunny day
At least seven years ago
A humming bird hovered
Unsteadily
At arm’s length
And eye level
I cupped my hands
She settled in
Barbara at my side
I held her up to the feeder
While Barbara held it steady
She fed herself voraciously
Still laying in my hands
I then lifted her up
to perch on the line
We watched her
Worrying
Another flew by
She shot after it
Into the sky
Like nothing was wrong
And it wasn’t
Two days later
A humming bird
Flew in the open door
circled the room
and left us
We looked at each other in awe
