And Then It Stopped
Driving north on I-81 in the wee of the night
I had to pull over because I had to fight
a sudden need to nod off and doze
so I got me a room and brought in my clothes,
Quickly washing up I fell onto the bed
hoping that soon I'd be asleep but instead
I heard some slamming doors and arguing
the couple next door not being very charming,
I looked at the clock and it was 4 a.m.
and the arguing continued to my chagrin
until finally there was quiet and I gave out a sigh
when 10 minutes later I thought I would cry,
The couple were now even louder
the arguing getting more heated and fouler
glancing at the clock it was now 4:30
knowing pretty soon it'd be dawn and I'd hear the birdies,
Then it sounded like they were all argued out
I sensed they made up after their heavy bout
until much to my dismay I heard them again argue and shout
after an hour of this I knew I had to use some clout,
So at 5 a.m. I said enough is enough
I called the motel office and had to get rough
complaining about the kooky couple in the next room
the motel clerk said he'd get a cop down there soon,
They were still arguing till I heard heavy footsteps
then a knock on their door and hushed kind of regrets
whispering of this and that going on next door
with me trying to sleep feeling anguished to my core,
Finally at 5:30 a.m. the loud whisperings stopped
guessing they got a harsh warning from the cop
with me still trying to get just a lick of sleep
but now instead hearing outside "tweet, tweet, tweet."
