Shifting Shadows

A gnarly oak tree
resembling
the Gorgon
Medusa;
sends serpentine roots
twisting and squirming,
into the dank
forest floor.
Its skeletal limbs
clawing their way
out of a fog bank;
bony fingers
drip droplets
of morning dew
onto the dry leaves
scattered beneath
its barren branches.
And Autumn breezes
reveal the
shifting shadows
weaving between
its mossy boughs,
untangling the
net nature cast;
freeing this
ancient Goliath
from its shroud;
of misty white.
