Amid Green Skies
I feel like hail... torrential rains and spiral winds
From the eye of the storm pushing and pulling
With the violent rush of a bellowing locomotive,
My only warning, as I flood fields and streets with billows
And uproot and splinter pines, oaks and cedars.
While hurling boulders and every loose leaf,
I demolish and disseminate houses from their foundations.
Exhausting men, women, children, the young and old,
I'm cold as ice and I destroy all that's in my narrow path.
I'm aware only of the vengeance of my anger...
But suddenly! My wrath wanes in my bewitched reins.
After hell has enlarged, my fury recompences no wins
(Though it seemed momentarily). One by one
My senses return. My eyes open and I see
All the death, devastation and destruction I have caused.
My nostrils unclog and smell the refuse of my haste.
My ears hear neglected instruction and wails of gnashing teeth.
Taste returns as my mouth drinks their bitterness,
And my fingers lose their numbness and feel remorse
For what I've done to helpless victims and innocent bystanders...
But... most likely... it will happen again... unawares.
