American Soldier
Waking up not knowing what to expect.
Living day by day and paycheck to paycheck.
Will today be the day that I leave my family again.
The prayers will go out followed with an amen.
I arrive in the desert where its hot like a fire.
When the wind blows it feels like a hair dryer.
With the only confidence knowing that my weapon is clean.
I leave the gate and enter a horrible scene.
I don't know them but they want me dead.
All I want is to sleep in my own bed.
I watch the news thousands of miles from home.
Waiting in long lines just to use the telephone.
I dream of my children splashing around in the pool.
Its hard to imagine a country so cruel.
My children grow up as fast as can be.
I get to see this through pictures and TV.
Its time to move out as I swing a ruck over my shoulder.
Thats the life of an American Soldier.
