Amen Ra

The sunrise was like a fertilized egg golden of yolk and flecked with blood, it crowed to the mist filled morn. It ran over the hillside frying the vegetation. The brilliant white albumen flowed into the vague gray day. The egg itself blushed at the flattery extending pseudo pods of white like rays outward against the steel gray of the frying pan it's yolk congealed a burgeoning like the celestial eye of Ra.

congrats on your winning poem, I like the comparison of the sun to an egg, most unusual, I find some clever analogies within your poetry...

And, yes, this is why I love this poem so much. Personification and/or extended metaphors are my favorite types of poetry.

DEb. you told me to let you know about this poem. Of course it is anology. LInes 1-2 are similies (for use of "like"). LInes 3-6 are metaphors. Second stanza, lines 1-2 are also metaphor. Line 3 begins as similie, and also last line is similie for "like" again. That's all anology is, either using similie or metaphor. My poem was much more subtle & used no similies, which made it difficult for people to realize. I am gonna change that one line to "mist" to make it more obvious I met fog!

Yes great analogy, or analogies I should see, I saw more than one... The imagery however is what stands out in this piece to me. You have a gift for description and painting pics with words... Remember that in all your future pieces. Great Job!

Fantastic, this is how analogy works in poetry, as against how it works in prose. It is the whole poem from beginning to end, seeding the imagery with its own beauty. A vintage work, and more so because Ra is not only sun god, but the sun is worshiped for its fertility. Beautiful write.

Excellent poem, Deb! (And my sister mocked me for comparing a sunrise to a yolk in one of my novels. She doesn't see it through the eyes of a poet as you do!) It's interesting how you're putting Egyptian characters and beliefs in so many of your poems now. Guess that trip really inspired you. Thanks so much for sharing this brilliant description! Love, Carolyn
