This poem is not autobiographical! My mother was kind, loving, sacrificial, attentive, and encouraging.

Am I a good or bad boy? Mostly bad, I think 'cause Mommy hardly ever says I'm good. This morning Mommy's smiling! Does she think I'm good? It's hard to tell, and I get so confused! Some mornings Mommy's frowning. Is it 'cause I'm bad? She yells at me and sends me to my room. Some days she doesn't feed me. I'm hungry and so sad. She doesn't seem to hear me when I cry. Some mornings Mommy's staring, just walking round and round and talking to herself like I'm not there. The next time Mommy's like this, I know just what I'll do. I'll ask a lot of questions really loud. I'll talk until she answers. What will my mommy do, just send me to my room for being bad? posted April 5, 2016 entered in Richard Lamoureux's Let's Talk about it Contest on July 29, 2017

Wonderful write and strong statement of neglect, (which I have felt my entire life) - it leaves scars that NEVER heal. Blessings and congrats on your well-deserved win, Janice! <3

Thanks so much, Greg. I'm sorry to hear you were neglected! So many people have been, and it DOES leave scars. Janice

A great poem, Janice: All children at any young age should not be ignored.

Very tragic to hear this from the perspective of a four-year-old ... I've watched a documentary about what neglect does to a child. A there was a 12 year old so neglected that it stunted her mental development and so she much had the brain capacity of a five year old, always wanting to be held. Really well penned here, with an accurate voice of a child's frankness.
