All You Who Thirst
[to the tune of Feed The Birds from the musical Mary Poppins]
[Verse]
Why do you spend on things other than bread?
On that which can not satisfy?
Listen, incline your ear to me, hear what is said,
Delight yourselves; yes, come try.
[Verse]
My thoughts are not your thoughts, my ways, not yours;
My thoughts are higher by far.
As the heavens are higher than the earth below,
So my ways are more than you know.
[Chorus]
Come to me, all you who thirst
Calling, calling, come to me first
Come to me, do not think twice
Come buy, come eat, there is no price
[Bridge]
Seek the LORD while he still may be found there among you.
Yes, call upon him while he stays.
And let the unrighteous abandon his trespass;
The LORD pardons returning strays.
[Chorus]
Come to me, all you who thirst
Calling, calling, do nothing first
Come to me, do not think twice
Come buy, come eat, there is no price
[Verse]
You shall go out in joy, be led in peace;
Hillsides in gladness will swell.
The mountains and hills shall go singing before you,
And the trees of the fields as well.
[Chorus]
Come to me, all you who thirst
Calling, calling, do nothing first
Come to me, do not think twice
Come buy, come eat, there is no price
----------
Certainly, more than an echo of Isaiah 55.
The original song has a great deal of variation in
the number of syllables per line from verse to
verse, making it a bit tricky to sing.
I added a third verse and a third chorus at the end.
Now, if I could only channel Julie Andrews...
