AI is Destroying The Written Word

                            I want to weep
             at the destruction of poetry
that comes now with the use of AI robots
and the fact that cheats are entering
                            contests on PS
and winning high placements over real poets
how sad is that only some sponsors care
      some just don't care
            and worst the odd person even supports it
                            I am not one of those
no AI poem will ever, never, ever place in my contest
            see, I do care, I check every single poem
      and guess what I know
                              who you are

                               this is my created
             form that I call fragmented spaces
no robot created it, I did, and several others too
because that is what real poets do, they create
                               my poems are 
written with my own blood, heart and soul
and I am so proud of that and my poetry
      how dare you AI users
            think you can compare with a real writer
                                because some sponsor
places your fake poem as a winner, I bet you laugh 
            that you fooled them into thinking you can write
      well, we the contest sponsers who care
                                are now checking for AI

I'm pretty sure I've placed some in the past and that hurts me for those who didn't place without the use of AI. All I can do is apologize and try to do better. AI is not cancelling out the poet if used responsibly, but to source out one's thinking to it and to flood the site with AI slop (not just the contests) is beyond my understanding. SPAM is SPAM, whichever way you look at it. What is their motif? Blogs are running dry (by comparison to the good old days when lively discussions where the order of the day). Trolls are killing this site, bite by bite. Judging my contest is getting to be so difficult, I am checking about 8 detectors to get a clarity on if a poem is AI, and pick whichever is the most hits of AI or Human, and it is breaking my heart ~

Jan Allison July 24, 2025 at 5:39 AM Keep on checking for AI and plagiarism Constance, at this rate their will be few real poets left on the site - AI should be discouraged not encouraged and accepted as part of life - its fine in medicine etc but not in poetry and not on soup. some folk lack integrity aren't honest enough to admit they post AI and steal poems. I feel sadness and frustration for those that simply push a button and then words appear. So wrong for them to post and say they wrote it. Many may fall into the trap of AI and be dishonest, but I know so many honest poets out there and that keeps me looking forward. My best to you, my sweet friend. Let people who plagiarize back on the site even though the rules clearly state they will be banned. I am on the fence about doing more contests due to this. Poetry should be honestly written from those with integrity to keep it real and not fake. Constance La France July 25, 2025 at 11:01 AM Tania, I am considering not doing contests also, it is breaking my heart and spirit, but also I am told poets love my contest, and I love receiving their written words inspired by me... so it is a dilemma, having to disqualify poets who I have come to love is so hard ~

Frederic Parker July 23, 2025 at 4:12 PM Constance, you know I write a lot of Sonnets, over 500 on this site, and having done so, people can read them and see that I wrote them. I use my voice like all poets do. Lin Lane July 23, 2025 at 1:14 PM I'm so sorry that I am just now seeing your lines, Constance. The word 'artificial' doesn't sit well with me when it comes to writing poetry. Even more so when a human pretends it to be their own, whether entered in a contest or just to be posted. How sad their self-esteem if they choose to think taking credit for AI will boost them in the eyes of others. When discovered... the embarrassment SHOULD be unbearable. Each time an AI poem places in a contest, the soup becomes less appetizing. It's so tragic how technology has improved, but at the same time, destroyed so many things in our lives. I am lazy and not checking for AI cheaters, but I seriously don't think it's happening in my contests. Maybe I am gullible to believe that. I am sure that if you are not checking for AI you are placing AI poems because it has invaded our contests. It takes no longer than checking a poem for syllables once you have a AI Detector/s in place... I use several to be sure, thanks for the compliment

Obviously someone who hosts regular contests would most likely see it up close and personal. I would guess you probably began to see the problem before many of us. There are many entering contests with AI poems and winning, but not mine, I am armed for battle with several AI detectors and have an ever growing list of these people and they will not place in my contest. In my contest just finalized, there were 3 100% poems that I detected and disqualified.

I have been blamed for ousting members using these tactics. It's plain craziness. The real poets will continue to unite together. I have said, a writer writes from their creative heart. AI has No heart to write with. Maybe Soup should have an AI area where All AI'sss can be listed. Have a blessed day writing away. Constance La France July 8, 2025 at 10:55 AM Paula, thank you so much for the compliment and comment, sadly AI robots are getting very good at humanizing poems, so without the use of AI detectors it is impossible sometimes to tell, I use 4 or more in my contests, I don't even mind a few flaws in the poems entered cause for me that proves they are human written...

Jan Allison July 8, 2025 at 10:26 AM the sad thing is Constance when a poem tests AI 100% on 3 checkers and you report it nothing gets done so we are fighting a losing battle but thankfully a few more sponsors are checking but forms like limericks/haiku/tanka can be written by a bot but will escape the checkers Constance La France July 8, 2025 at 11:02 AM Jan, more sponsors each day are joining the no AI battle, it is difficult to detect the shorter poems for AI as most detectors require 80 or 100 words, what I do is enter the short poem several times until I get the required words to detect AI, seems to be working well for me. But my plan is to have contests from now on that require longer poems or poems of at least 100 words

I am saddened to see what is going on with the site regarding AI and plagiarism and I am being unfairly labelled as a hypocrite for championing a poem that has been set to music.
