Age Old Battle

You do not beat the Devil
By hollering at him, punching
Him in the face – that’s what
He is, violence, physical and
Spiritual discord. You do not
Beat the Devil by heated protests,
He feeds on your discord, relishes
Your fevered pitch. You don’t
Beat the Devil by binding him,
Throwing him into flames – He
is flame, pain and suffering. He
Joyfully savors every lick and
Subsequent ash. In fact, you do
Not beat the Devil, the Christ
In you must be risen to bear
Righteous arms. Take the battle
Upon yourself, make yourself
Arbiter of the Lord’s justice
And you will lose – He will
Defeat your lesser ego for that
Is his inlet and base of operation.
Shut Him out, do not give him
Any power for presence – and
God wins. We all win…. As my
Dearest Friend said, "Resist
Not evil."

The Devil wants us to battle. He is battle. The more violent our words and actions, it is ice cream cake to him. He is pain. He is suffering. Love gives him no entry. If there is a battle to be fought, that is for Christ and His angels to decide.

Never allow the devil to have a foothold in us. Devil has access into our lives only if we give. After giving him an opportunity to get into us, it is difficult to defeat him. Yours is a very wise advice. Enjoyed reading your poem.

Flea powder? He is the itch. You don't get it, do you? He thrives on the itch. You are applying to him anthropomorphic attributes he does not have. Just what he wants from us.

Resist ourselves, temptation. The Devil only has the power we give him. Christ when tempted did not move to throw the Devil off the mountain. Christ's resistance was derived from a relationship with the Father, Our Father's mercy and Love. But I did not write this to argue scripture with you. I did not write this to debate with anyone. Peace my friend.

"Resist not evil" is a teaching from Jesus found in the Sermon on the Mount. This instruction emphasizes the importance of responding to wrongdoing with nonviolence and forgiveness rather than retaliation. Key Concepts Nonviolence: Followers are encouraged to avoid retaliating against those who do harm. Forgiveness: The teaching promotes mercy and love over vengeance. Response to Wrongdoing: Instead of seeking revenge, individuals are urged to respond with kindness. Scriptural Reference The phrase is derived from Matthew 5:39, where Jesus states: "But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also." This verse illustrates the principle of turning the other cheek as a form of nonviolent resistance. Implications The teaching encourages believers to reflect on their responses to evil and to choose paths that align with love and compassion, fostering peace rather than conflict.

Very wise advice in this poem, Joe. You’ve accounted most of his old tricks. A nice cadence & good title. ThkU for sharing, even if only one reader heeds the advice, it was worth a while. Have a beautiful weekend. X.

I occasionally beat the Devil. When I ask what God wants of me in a given situation, I have a fighting chance. Usually lose anyway, due to lack of discipline and poor exaction. ~ Sub-Standard
