Age of Innocence

First day of school
Terrified, leaving Mommy, big bus ride
In love with teacher
Not the stinky girls
Christmas lights, sparkly and bright
Toys, toys, toys
Lincoln logs, six guns, raccoon hat
Big red coaster bike
Neighborhood boys
Running, fighting, sand lot baseball
Cub Scouts, playing army
Matchbox and marbles, my dog Skipper
Secret fort, no girls allowed, maybe just one
Holding hands, my first kiss
Summer break is finally here
Swimming, fishing, kick the can
Out until street lights come on, mother calling
Age of Innocence
Until Mr. Kennedy died
Then life wasn't so simple any longer

Love your stroll across your youth. Your poem ends perfectly. I too remember the day innocence died while glued to the tv set shaken by the tone of alarmed voices reporters.

That is exactly the way it was for me too.

Wow, memories from the past. Well written Timothy, where did those years go. Tom

I don't know. The older we get the faster time flies
