Age
Run to the seashore
collect shells
build sand castles
laugh
Sand in your toes
flip-flop footprints
deep in the sand
smiles
That baby
grows older
No more
childish laughter
Run in the waves
bring friends
with you
Poke dead jellyfish
pick up tiny crabs
feel slippery seaweed
in between your fingers
That toddler
grows too
frown at the kids
smile flirtatiously
at lifeguards
and surfers
relax in the sunshine
tan in your swimsuit
lie on the towel
under an umbrella
That teenager
gets older
Brings her own
children
with their father
to the beach
and watches her kids,
watches her babies,
grow too.
