Again And Again

I watch as a trickle of teardrops
fall, where innocent children were shot;
watering the flowers
that so many grieving parents
left on the school grounds;
marking where their child died.
I can hear the cries of stricken mothers
weeping for their murdered child;
overwhelmed by grief,
and numb to any other pain.
I can feel the palpable sadness
that saturates the air.
And it hurts just to take a breath.
I can sense the shock and disbelief
that has befallen this community;
shaking the foundations of their faith.
I know nothing of what they feel;
I pray no one else will ever
suffer such unimaginable pain.
Although in my heart
I fear that this will, without a doubt,
happen again and again.
