After Baby Baby, Baby, I Wanna Sleep With You

What war songs will you sing? About the war that was to end all them? Over There, Keep the Home Fires Burning, When Johnny Comes Marching Home? And next The White Cliffs of Dover, I’ll Be Seeing You, Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree? Danced we fast and slow, Where did the war songs go? While we were sobbing goodbyes To a new lullaby. And now, will a new generation Find no songs of hope are being penned? Deadly scattered wars on global plains Will you sing a song for these? Where is the poet’s verse in song Of these threatening days, Wars and rumors of war Without melody; Without Verse Without End Silent Pins on maps, pins on maps.

I really enjoyed this poem because it is so true! Each continent and their countries seem to be at loggerheads. We hear the news and every day we hear so many die here, or there or wherever, just another statistic, but we don't realize that these statistics were live, breathing people who are no more. We need worldwide peace, but I have my doubt if mans greed to possess will ever allow this to happen. Poetry hugs, Jennifer.

Excellent in both poetic form and message. You have highlighted what is indeed missing. Perhaps you have started a movement and songs of hope will once again be heard on the airwaves. Regards David in NZ

That title was a jibe of so many of today's poor lyrics. Thank you so much for reading it and commenting.

Hi Sunlite, this is such a wonderful write. Songs that gave hope. I wish there would be no need for any other songs to be sung, that war should be no more. Let the songs of hopeful peace be sung. A touching write my friend. I love to listen to those old songs. They meant much. Hoping I find you well. Have a wonderful Saturday. Hugs....Mike. XX

It seems to me that the young people are being cheated in their music by poor lyrics. Thank you, Mike.
