Adults
You were the hugs
And all the love
You said I’d ever need
Now that I’ll be gone
You tell me I’m wrong
And you’ll pull the rug out
From under me
Make me feel my worth
Depends upon your blessing
Adults
Always telling us
We can fly, fly, fly away
Shoot for the sky
But when we try, try, try
Its never good enough
Its not their way
I might just be young, yeah
And yeah they just might be right…
They put us in chains
Afraid we’ll change
In ways they never could
They put us in chains
Before we can even try.
Now I gotta front
Act like I know what
I’m doing
Even when I don’t
Much more than I do
And they love to
call it attitude
Adults tying the rope
Around our necks
So we don’t hang ourselves
