Abandon

ABANDON To abandon means to leave behind It's a practice that contorts the mind Of those deserted restless souls And crushes all their lofty goals Self-esteem is totally shattered All is gone that really mattered Life is filled with mass delusion Caused by the horror of seclusion Thoughts of suicide begin to rise Leading to an early demise All hope is lost, all joy gone At the terror of being left alone Life never seems to get any better Abandonment is a binding fetter Leaving one in great despair Helpless and with no one to care If you know one such as this Offer comfort, bring them bliss Help them overcome their plight And help them win their hopeless fight 16 June 2018 For the contest sponsored by Brenda Chiri

Congratulations on your win. You describe so well the downward spiral. Sad but also encouraging in that we never know whst words or comfort will help, but we have to offer it. Well-written.

Such a though provoking piece Curtis, sadly more often than not a person succeeds in ending their life and it is too late to think what more you could or should have done. Good luck in the contest:-) hugs jan xx

Jan, thanks for stopping by and encouraging me by your comments. I wanted to end the poem on a positive note just to show that when someone cares enough to reach out, a disaster can be avoided and a life saved and changed.

Love the last stanza Curtis, sadly there are many in a dark place and we don't always see the signs until its too late. Tom

Thanks, Tom! When the signs go unnoticed and it becomes too late, it makes one wonder how they missed it. I'm glad the last stanza shows what good can come out of these situations just by a little awareness and concern.

Thanks, Heidi. I wanted the morbid part to be there but end up being overshadowed by the good that can be done when someone cares.
