A Whir of Wings
i Watched wee hummingbird take flight,
and wondered where her children slept.
As she scurried before dark night,
with ebon hues o'er blossoms crept.
New rose, with soft velvet inside,
perhaps conceals them, unafraid.
A perfect place for young to hide,
away from sun, in coolest shade.
They'll become young adults quite fast.
Their childhood treasures cast away.
To wing afar, as clouds slip past;
find warmer skies in which to play.
I'll miss them, knowing as I yearn,
with Summer's blossoms, they'll return.
