A Whir of Wings

i Watched wee hummingbird take flight, and wondered where her children slept. As she scurried before dark night, with ebon hues o'er blossoms crept. New rose, with soft velvet inside, perhaps conceals them, unafraid. A perfect place for young to hide, away from sun, in coolest shade. They'll become young adults quite fast. Their childhood treasures cast away. To wing afar, as clouds slip past; find warmer skies in which to play. I'll miss them, knowing as I yearn, with Summer's blossoms, they'll return. Dear Ann, I am enchanted by the tender beauty of your poem. Your imagery is so endearing and captivating and brings me to the center of your lovely musings with ease. "A Whir of Wings" is such an amazing title and captures the sound of their presence wonderfully. I love hummingbirds and adore this piece so very much. Your evocative couplet echoes my feelings in the Fall as well. Warmest wishes, my friend.. ~Susan

Humming birds are perhaps the cutest of the feathered family ! I am curious to know how the young ones will be looking ! A very cute poem, Ann !

Their nests are very intricate works of art, but seldom seen due the mother's careful concern for light and shadow. Enjoyed! Aloha!

Hummingbirds seldom return to the same nesting area as they understand lighting changes and don't want their nests to be seen. Too bad you didn't get a photo! Aloha!

There was a nest in a tall crepe myrtle bush I just happened to see with tiny babies. So precious. The bush has gotten taller and I don't know if they ever made another nest there since she knew I saw it.
