A Walk Alone
A WALK ALONE
I took a walk into the woods to be there all alone,
And there in awe I quietly stood to see this lovely home.
The birds were singing in the trees, now with their leaves so green,
And as I saw the busy bees and took in all the scene,
It seemed I heard God’s voice so still as gentle winds did blow,
And my heart with His joy was filled as onward I did go.
I watched the rippling brook flow by as o’er the rocks it went;
It seemed as if the azure sky was full of lovely scents.
The flowers seemed to look at me and nod their lovely heads,
The squirrels that I chanced to see ran quickly to their beds.
The woods reminded me of days when I came there before
And walked along the dirt pathways and on the river’s shore.
They also made me think of days when there I stopped and knelt
And tried to lift my voice to pray and how His presence felt.
And now I walk there through the woods to once again just see
The places I have often stood and heard it speak to me.
You see, the birds now have new songs and flowers a new scent
Because to Jesus I belong since I to Calvary went.
And now the rippling of the brook reminds me of the day
When all the sin my Savior took and washed it all away.
And as I see this great array, I look up to the sky
And think about a coming day when to His home I’ll fly.
Though all I see in nature fair is beauty to the eye,
I know the beauty’s better there in the land beyond the sky.
And so I have a little taste of heaven here below
As I behold the awe and grace of nature as I go.
And now as I walk in the woods and am with God alone,
I thank Him for His grace so good and for His heavenly home.
There I will walk along the way, see beauty now untold
In that bright land of endless day upon the streets of gold.
No longer will I walk alone; I’ll need do that no more,
For I’ll see Jesus in that home upon the golden shore.
And down the road I’ll walk with Him and thank Him for His grace,
For saving me from all my sin, and for that glorious place.
