A Visitation

I see you there old man…. hiding somewhere within self pity. I only glance your way, so as not to intrude. The trembling lips bravely bitten back, holding in what is only yours, for fear of losing it. That wrinkled brow pointed toward heaven where you know she is waiting. The tremor of love riding each word…. One tiny tear swells to escape, rolling down a cheek that belonged only to her. There was no other, no child, mother, no friend, no one. Your life, love and happiness resting in someone no longer here. I weep within, for you old man. As I sit close and try to empathize, knowing that misery is your only friend, while you absolve the guilt of letting her down. I smile and hope you understand that when you leave, I will inherit your chair Jul 15 2011 01:07 PM
